From olden times bread in the Russia was the evidence of hard work, prosperity and fortune. Guests were welcomed with Russian bread, holiday tables were decorated with delicious ruddy pies; pancakes are the attribute of winter seeing-off. Bread is everything’s head, says Russian proverb.
Ingredients:
CRUST:
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 cup flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
FILLING:
- 18 large apples
- cinnamon
- 1 cup sugar
Directions
- Combine margarine & sugar in a mixer, add eggs. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
- Add this to the first part, combine thoroughly. Make a ball of dough and put in fridge for 2 hours.
- Cut apples and add cinnamon and sugar. Cut dough in half and roll 2 dough rectangles 13″x 9″ Lower crust in a greased with oil pan.
- Put a layer of apples with cinnamon, sugar. Put the second dough rectangle on. Make holes in top crust before baking. Brush with yolk the top crust.
- Bake at 350 for 50 minutes (until crust slightly golden). When baked, let cool down, better in freezer, to firm up before slicing.
